Summer days, summer nights

What a great weekend. Granted I was here and there and every where, but a weekend off is just what I needed. I have spotless floors after a week of muddy dog paws. Cleaned, organized, and of course pitched. Got stuff ready for the show and just plan lazed around.

Gotta send THATA BOYS out to Garrett and Mitcham for his 3rd major this weekend but even better is that he finished his first cardigan!! Good job Zoe!!!

Also congrats out to Dawn with some big wins with Peace and one of her other dogs, Music, taking his first major.

Here's a few photos of the gang here doing what they do best, just hanging....
I let Meredith's butterfly project take over one of my rose beds. It's now populated with milkweeds and monarch butterfly caterpillers.

And of course the ducks. We let the yearlings out with the aged group on Saturday. All looks like it's going well. The bottom photo is our apricot dilute khaki drake having a "chat" with his normal khaki buddy. Can you catch the shine on those cayugas? WOW, they are the coolest colored and I see some nice show prospects in there.

Okay now off to ride a horse.

Befitting

I highly recommend reading the articles on this gentleman's blog. He also has many other articles out on the web and various industry publications.

This is one of my favorite's though:

"When we are openly critical of others we are harming ourselves. First by appearing petty and mean, and secondly by providing negative comments for others to spread. Bad news. Start today by following my dad's advice - " If you can't say something good about somebody, don't say anything at all.""

WOW!!!

Just got numbers for our upcoming kennel club show and all I can say is WOW!!!! Yeapers, the cardigan people came through. I don't know the counts for the TCKC part, but our Sunday entry is 20 dogs, 4-10-6-0. That's right folks, a 3 pt in girls. The rest of the entries are good too with a 150% increase in the whippet entry.

Oh I can't wait, actually yes I can. Too much to do before the show and not enough time. HELP!!!!

Short and sweet

What a fun weekend we had in Albert Lea. The rain stayed away, the temps- a little warm but not bad. We had a fun group to show with, shared the points all the way around. I think each of us walked away with something. Everyone was in a great mood and we were all joking ringside about everything under the sun.

Kim's a great host and we had a Mexican buffet on Saturday night. Rounded out the evening with Hurricanes(pitchers of them) around the camp fire--till 1am!

Justin came home with his first two points. He was super goofy and it's great to see that in him. Again, I just love this dog to pieces.

Alec and Ruff Ruff were on fire on Sunday with a Group 4. We once again got asked if we hire out as a cheering section. But of course--and for the mere price of grape Popsicles!!!

Okay now for a week of hell at work-I hate college students.

For the record

It's official. Frankie is now CH Sumjammin's Five O'Clock Somewhere FB CGC. To which that means he will be moved up this weekend at the Albert Lea shows and yes, for those wondering, it does break the major.

I know there will be a few pissy people-as Bekka's shirt says-put on your big girl panties and deal with it. Speaking of Bekka's shirts, the other one that I love and is so true--Winner's Bitch.....and so do losers. Is that not so true?? Hello, it's just a dog show and there will always be another. If you take it so seriously that you have to hide where you are going, can't ask or answer the simple question- are you going and who are you entering?, or feel the need to play games and purposely mess up another exhibitor's dog, then you need to get out of dog shows.

Sometimes that's just how the cookie crumbles. Here's the rules-a CH can be shown in the open dog class. So you can enter a champion of record in open dog but Frankie is entered in BBE. You can move a dog from any class to BOB. You can not move a dog from BBE, Am Bred, Novice, 12-18 or Open to any other class other then BOB. Though you can move puppies between the 6-9 and 9-12 class-that's the only time you can move between the classes. Since I can't move him from BBE to anything other then BOB, then that's where he goes. Believe me, I asked the AKC what the rules were.

See you ringside! I have no high expectations - it's just for fun and maybe I'll get to text Garrett with another Holy Carp message.

Also crossing my fingers that Ella Bella does us proud at the WR. So excited to hear news--will pass it on as I find out.

Skywatch and such

Okay, so there's no picture per say with this post but many have noticed the new top photo, so I'm using it this week for Skywatch!

This looking due east, slightly north of the house. I think David was standing by the garage and house is the closest neighbor to the north.

We get some awesome skys at our place in the early mornings.

Hounds seized

I know this is already posted over on Ruffly Speaking but needs mention here as this could happen to any of us, at any time and without warning. Please spread this article and let's pray that all things work out in her favor.

All grow'd up

Can it be? No, not yet? Really??

My last baby starts middle school at the end of the month and and and and well I just can't handle it.

Last weekend I was informed by both Bekka and Kim that yes indeed she is turning into a teenager---WHOA-----that's two years down the road, not when she's still 11. I sound so much like my mother when I tell her that I brought her into the world, I can just as well take her back out as well as still get her over my knee when she's a teenager--love ya Muffin!

David had some pictures developed off his little disposable cameras that he loves. Honestly they take pretty good pictures and take a beating, unlike the expensive cameras.

So here's my baby all grow'd up, sort of.

Seems she caught the giant chicken. We used it for the bbq at the corgi picnic -heehee
Actually County Fair this year, early in the day, many many hours before her birds showed.

The next Tiger Woods. Approacing the 18th at the Greater Iowa Cornfield National Tournament. Yes this is from this spring just after they planted beans. Notice that she's got quite the fine looking caddy helping her out.

Holy Carp!

I finally got to a dog show this weekend. A real one, not a fun match, not a 4-H show, but a real live AKC dog show. Oh it does a body good.

First off, huge thank you to Kim for letting us bunk with her. It was so much fun and the Double Shot is perfect. Bekka has it all organized, though the condiment fridge, well, we need to work on that a little. What's your first thought when you open up a fridge and see relish, ketchup, mustard, and beer? Yes, that was it. We have a list of things to stock in it next weekend.

The Pettibone Resort was wonderful. Right on Goose Island in LaCrosse, WI. 5 mins from the show site and lots of other dog people. We had a blast. Thanks to Randy and Tim for helping get the Double Shot perfectly placed so the slides could come out. OH and electronic awnings--push of a button and bingo, shade. Yeah, that's well worth it right there.

To the show--nice site. Well run show but seriously, more vendors, please??? We did groom at the RV and then drove over right before ring time. Luck had it, no rain and cool weather most of the weekend.

Hugh Ruffner was in town on Saturday and flirted with each and every girl he found. What a dog he thinks he is. Alec and Russ looked awesome out there and took BOB on Saturday. Nothing in group. Honestly if you judge, give the courtesy to all the dogs and look past the front 1/2 of the group. Most of the 2nd 1/2 did comment that they didn't even need to be in the ring, since she didn't even seem to know they exisited. Ah but yes, another day, another judge, another dog show.

Sunday was the Holy Carp day. I still don't understand it but Frankie took BOB over Russ and Phantom. Crissy was BOW and BOS for her first point. Knowing the judge for group was the judge that we had the day before, we figured we would just go in for the experience. That's what it was, just a good time. '

So we load up, get the Double Shot all ready for the road and head home. Bekka and Meredith are sleeping, Alec too. I had to keep my eyes open for the trip, but was never so happy to see my bed last night. Unfortunately a call from Kim later on confirmed that it was not an uneventful trip home.

The malibu blew two tires on one side about 60 miles out of LaCrosse and Kim, Nick, Russ and Ella are overnighting it in Spring Green WI until they can get tires replaced plus the electrical fixed. Seems that when they blew the tires, it started a small electrical fire in the malibu. At least everyone is safe, the Double Shot in fine and the malibu, well, it'll limp home later today.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and can't wait for the next dog show!!!
