Sunday Sunday

Very productive day at the farm. Baked bread, have another set rising in the pan, and another batch on it's first rise.
Shopping for clothes for the funeral for Meredith-ugh, she's growing....again.
Laundry, got someone's goat, killed a coon, opened Chateau Quack, clipped wings, let the herd out in to the pond.
Get hay at the neighbors, chase off the wander neighbors dogs, take blankets of horses and brush them out.
Now to do toenails on dogs, go out and do poop patrol, and you know what? I think I will just sit on my butt for awhile and watch hockey--score 1-0, Canada-ugh. Oh wait--FIGHT! I watch NASCAR for the crashes, hockey for the fights and go to dog shows for the daggers in my back ;0)

Living Legacy

This is my Grandma Daisy and Meredith, taken many moons ago. This morning Grandma passed away at the age of 93. She was my last living grandparent and I've missed her for a long time. Dementia takes a person away long before their body is ready.

What do I remember? Potato salad in the green swirl fireking bowl--I have it and right now that bowl is letting a some bread dough rise in it.
Painting our fingernails--my brother had to join in so we would do his toenails--heehee, pretty pink too.
Homemakers Club
Orange slices(the candy ones) in the carnival glass bowl--that's sitting on my buffet and has suckers in it right now.
Fenton Christmas trees-I get them out each year.
A hand painted ceramic Easter egg-it's out right now.
Cherry cordials, the Brach's ones in the box high up in the cupboard
Grape hyacinths and pink peonies.
Rhubarb that Grandpa loved to over fertilize.
Peanut Brittle
Canning corn
Eating beets till I peed pink :)
Saturday nights and Lawrence Welk
Sunday mornings and Leo Greeko
Price is Right, Noon news, ag reports, calling the "boys" in for dinner and them napping during As The World Turns
Sitting in the garage during severe storms
Swinging on her willow tree
4th of July picinics
Sledding down her hill then going in for hot chocolate
Chicklets
Bread stuffing
Lemon Meringue Pies

What I miss the most, knowing you could never pull anything over on Grandma.

Is it? Nah, but maybe?

I think I see spring right around the corner!

Nope, sorry, the indoor plants are even getting confused. More snow predicted tonight.

Gaga over gadgets

Now I'm not one for the latest and greatest in technology, but sometimes you run across something that well, just makes life on the web more entertaining. Love it when Big Brother is watching and I get to say--count this;0)

Wererabbits beware!

Let me tell you a little story that includes a unique cast of characters...a GSD named Max, a WereRabbit and a barbed wire fence.

Last week in the early dawn hours that encompase David's daily routine, Max the wonder dog begged to go outside. Upon venturing outside, rather then his usual - run at the horses and bark my fool head off, he did the unusual and stalked out in to the front yard. David, thinking nothing of it, shut the door, turned and three steps past the piano, heard a bang at the door followed by a whimpering canine.

In runs Max the scaredy cat dog, diving under the table, shaking.

Yes, we do believe he encountered the fearsome Wererabbit.

Rules have now changed. Dogs go out with partners, never leave your wing man. In case of an encounter, run for the door, barking the alarm as you go. Anyone knowing my husband will understand how he gives these instructions when he lets the dogs out.

In all honesty, we do have a very stupid rabbit or two venturing into the yard this winter. Our beloved rabbit dog left us for the bridge, so those pesky bunny butts are getting braver and braver. Our figuring is that Max was stalking a rabbit, in his mad dash to catch it, forgot about one little thing--the barbed wire fence. With the current snow cover, the rabbits just run under the top two strands, and well, I think you get the picture? Yeah, Wonder Dog has two very neat gauges out of his face where he ran into the fence, scared the piss out of himself and now is Super Chicken Dog. He's refusing to go outside in the dark, hides in the closet in the morning till the sun comes up and has to go out with a person and a group of dogs.

Dang Wererabbits!

Thanks, glad to be of service

This weekends weather is brought to you by.....me!

I swear, it's a dog show weekend and it's got to be some sort of weather event. Yesterday during the Collie and Pomeranian specialties(no it's not a new breed) it snowed. Predicted Thurday night 1". I think Des Moines ended up with 4" total. Yeap, glad to be of service.

Today, not bad. Parking crappy. Slushy roads but not bad. Tonight, eh, we'll see. Tomorrow-STORM. That's right folks, it may be a snow day for the Foggy Bottom crew as I get my keys taken away from me and we stay at Mumme's one more night. Thank God for 8am ring times. Yes, you heard me. The one time I like early ring times is when we have enough of a chance to book it home before the bad weather starts. I'll let you know how that goes.

Oh and results. Geeeze, I almost forgot. Lace was Best Veteran at both Collie specialties. Meredith and her pom, Tango were Best Junior. It was a fun day and that's all it was, just for fun.

Today, was well interesting. Before others take a stab and blast me for a goof, here it is. Yes per AKC rules you can enter a single dog in as many classes as you want. Per my or the supers goof, Pete was entered in both Puppy and Bred By. Long story, we won puppy then again, another miscommunication with the super and we had to go back into Bred By. Heehee, took 2nd in a huge class. Anyway, it was great ring experience, judge was very polite, very helpful and had a good sense of humor about it all. Nick took RWD. Ugh, those last two points will kill us but that's okay. We all love the lug anyway.

On a sad note, we want to send out healing vibes to Tom and Kerri Carter. Kerri, Connie, Kim and Sonja had to leave before showing today and will not be back tomorrow. Tom is in the hospital after having emergency surgery this morning. We have all been praying for him today. More news as we get updates.

Also, it was another blow to hear about the death of a lovely young lady. I won't go into too many details but our hearts and prayers are sent out to the Abben family. The world is a little less bright tonight without her here.

But now to happier thoughts--ice cream and brownies are calling my name. I also think a little adult beverages might be served.

belated photos

I kept forgetting to find my flash drive with Nick's photo on it. Bugger, it took bananas to find it-long story.

For those that don't know, Nicky is Moose's 1/2 brother from the Canandian litter a couple of years ago. Just a little bit of an accent-eh? and a total mush. Due to some paperwork delays, he didn't hit the ring until just this year. I love his personality, the way he turns into a show off in the ring and that well....I almost can't help myself, but have to wait just a little while longer to make a few exciting announcements about Nicky.

Moose attack survival skills

By far one of the most amazing creatures in the wild, Moose are also one of the most dangerous.

Signs of an aggressive moose include:
Walking in your direction
Stomping its feet
Peeling its ears back
Grunting
Throwing its head back and forth
Should you encounter an aggressive, wild moose, here is how to prevent and survive an attack:
Back away with your palms facing the moose
Speak softly and reassuringly, like you would to a little child
If the moose charges, get behind a large tree or rock in order to separate your body from the moose. Most moose charges, like grizzly bear charges, are bluffs
If the moose attacks you, feign death by curling up in a little ball. Protect your head and neck with your arms. If you are wearing a backpack, your pack will protect your back
............Or always carry a roll of hot pink vet wrap. Subdues them into submission each and every time.

Okay, so he's not a a wild moose but a very peeved off one. Seems he thought just for fun, that he might try to slice the pad off his foot. Unfortunately, that leads to pink vet wrap, a sympathy limp and yeap, you got it, a cone of shame tomorrow since he can't leave the wrap on while I'm at work. Silly boy.

Is it over yet?

We used to say when it rains, it pours. Not now. When it snows, it blizzards is the new term. I mean seriously, they are now issuing warnings about spring flooding considering the amount of snow we keep getting.

I have no photos of it. Kids keep getting snowed in, I have to keep trucking it to work. Kids hibernate all day with a few good movies and keep forgetting to take photos of the dogs disappearing in the drifts. I sit in a windowless office, only venturing out to go to on my daily bank walk or to get the special at Deb's.

Eghads--the horses are even saying enough is enough. The ones I feel the worst for are the little dogs. Tango, granted has hair to spare but comes in with snow balls all around-after 5 mins out. Ace, thank God he's black or we might loose him in the drifts. But Jazper, dear hairless Jazper. Okay, he's not hairless, but smooth brussels with less hair then the smooth collie. He can't decide if he wants in or out most days. Comes in with snow all over his push face and expects kisses--not.

So does anyone know where spring is hiding? Granted I'll take snow over mud any day, but this is pushing it.
