I bid you....adieu

Okay folks, we'll be silent for the next 5 days or so.  Loading up the truck, hooking up the trailer, getting dogs bathed and nails done and hoping I don't forget anything.

I must be nuts--show chair, cluster chair and I entered in obedience on my off days, then the Tall Kid and Ms have dogs entered all four days in the all breed shows.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Hope to be back with wild stories, grand adventures and my sanity still intact.

Later gators and have an AWESOME Labor Day weekend--join us in Amana if you can.....

Happy Barkday!!!!

I'm a day late just because of that darn dog show!

Happy Barkdays to the Dirty Dozen aka the Space/Astronomy Litter!!!

2 years ago, emergency c-section and a great bunch of friends later, Dr Meier brought into this world a dozen little brindle--oh and 2 black and white kids.  With many nights and days of supplemental feedings, keeping mom going and then working a 4 day dog show-eek!  But we made it.  Abbey was a great mom and knew exactly how many puppies she had to deal with and did a pretty darn good job of herding the entire bunch.

Here's to the now apply named Dirty Dozen....
The Show Boys:
CH Charlie
(all owner breeder handled)
CH Chipper
(sexy and he knows it!)
CH Max
(first time conformation CH for his owner!)

Loved and adored by the best families:
Percy
Einstein
Anne
Tannant
Griffin
Luna
Walt
Buddy
Drew
Max and his birthday cake!

To many more wonderful Birthdays and more achievements!

FYI--if we get a couple more titles on kids, Abbey will have her ROMb! hint hint...

So not ready

I'm up to my eyeballs in dog show stuff.  Tents are laid out, vendors are handled, eye clinic emails out this morning.  Clothes set out, transport and judges-sort of handled.

What I'm not ready for, though Moose is, our next shot at getting his CD.  I entered in the all breed on Thursday which is actually a boxer specialty day in hopes of having a small crowd.  That way he might focus on me??  And it's not a conflict with conformation ring times, which is why it's taken so long to get his CD done.  I've donated more entries then I care to imagine to clubs because I can't be in two places at the same time.

Our training has been awesome though, so we quit while a head and took a couple days off of the big stuff and worked on the small stuff.  Me.  As in not double commanding, not making extra moves or signals and walking in a straight line.

If posts are few and far between, it's because I'm exhausted but be sure, if that last leg happens-you'll hear about it!

Like father.... like son.....

Oh boy, it's genetic - both ways.

The infamous Muddy Eddie photo, created by his BFF's at the time, Shooter and Moose.

Now you have the son.... created by Penny, who is a niece of Shooter and Moose.  Add in that Mal snorkles in the mud puddles.
I adore his head and just love those white eye brow lashes-you can even see those through the dirt!!!  But the eyes, all Eddie.

And then a little later when he was some what dryer and cleaner, but not by much....

Pre-weekend update

Just to catch everyone up before I sign off for the weekend....

Lilly does it again!  WB and BOW for Kim down south!!  Woo hoo!!!!  The Dovey girls are doing us proud.

Cy was best puppy up in MN, Chip select and Cara, got a ribbon.  Let's say that we aren't that impressed with a particular judge anymore.  Gave it a try, not gonna happen again.

EBD postscript

She's still pissed.  Stomping around the house.  Taking it out on any dog within ear shot.  I'm waiting for the aftermath when I get home today.

On another note, Lilly(formerly Chalice) who lives with Kim in KS has made it official--she got her first point yesterday!!!   So now both show girls are pointed and well on their way to  making Dovey a proud momma.

Crossing paws, it's majors up North for Cy-hope he behaves(HA).

EBD and a wandering moose

So I hear that I'm having to deal with a very pissed off EBD for the weekend.  Seems as the Tall Kid was getting ready for the show today, she jumped up on the grooming table and refused to budge.  I know the look she gave him, the huff and puff and the really pissed off stomp when he kicked her outside so he could get some work done without tripping over her.

Now the wandering moose?  Sorry, Moose.  I did his nails on Sunday, then we've been working on some of his iffy obedience exercises, so you know what that means to him????  Tall Kid had to kick him out of the bathtub between bathing dogs this morning.

Just how I wanted to spend my weekend, dealing with upset dogs.  At least Moose will be happy, next weekend he actually gets to go to a show.  His annual job as the golf cart assistant is coming up!

Now the EBD?  As soon as we get a little plug in the dike, we'll see about maybe a round or two for her RA.

All things considered, great day at THE fair!

Yes it's THE fair.  If you haven't experienced it, you are sorely missing out on one of the great adventures in your life.  Add it to your bucket list!

The Iowa State Fair is right up there with Texas-but of course I'm biased and consider our's the best.  I've spent years going, mostly competeing in some sort of livestock event, and wandering.  I could have spent 2-3 days there and still not get it all in.  We had a couple hours after judging of the dog show was done and The Tall Kid and I wandered to our favorite spots.

Oh the dog show---Tall Kid judged showmanship and The Ms showed in prenovice and showmanship with Eddie.  Granted it wasn't the best show ever, the Ms was happy and knows what she needs to proof Eddie on for next year.  Yes, she said, he will be going back and he will kick some butt.  He broke his long sit just shy of 30 seconds when some loud booms happened.  You know, you can't proof for that at home or in training.  Otherwise, he only had a couple points off on the stand(supposedly handler issue which did not happen-we watched that part) and a little distraction on his figure 8-um, yeah, Eddie lost a little focus and was admiring the stewards.  Typical Eddie.  Which he also had a fan club, got his picture taken like a dozen times and yes, more people want Eddlets-unreal.  Cora, better have a good dozen next time around!

Don't let me start on showmanship-Tall Kid did great and had lots of kids come up and ask for advise.  The Ms-she doesn't get it, I don't get it, Tall Kid didn't get it and that's where we leave it(she had a different judge because they didn't want Alec judging her).

Hubby got to go over and get coffee at his favorite place, found his draft friends and ran into a lot of other people we know--go figure, tens of thousands of peopel from all over the USA and we always manage to run into friends!

Tall Kid and I hit the FFA display building after judging, while The Ms and Hubby went to the DNR building.  I ate Fried Mac-n-Cheese(OMG!) had my funnel cake from the stand I always got to outside the Jacobson building, watched the Appy show with powdered sugar all over me from the funnel cake.  Had a couple of lemonades too-yum.

Of  course, yes, I did have something on a stick-a porkchop(Iowa Pork Rocks!).  Tall Kid had a great lamb burger at the Lamb Producers tent, toured the Ag Building-saw the butter cow, snow white and the seven dwarfs, bees, BIG pumpkins and just had fun!

Went home, let dogs out, crawled into bed with loads of cold meds and dreamed of next year.  Sigh...I am taking a vacation there next year!!!!

I'm buying stock in bleach

And building a quarantee site in the basement.

The boys have had a cold now for two weeks.  Driving to Des Moines yesterday, I let them sit in the front seat and hack it out.

This morning, I'm dizzy, ears plugged, then unplugged, scratchy throat and I swear I will be going home and killing the two of them.

Then I'm going to bleach every inch of the house-when I feel better.

Just fantastically AWESOME!!!

The counts came into my email box this morning!   We have a record number in many breeds and hit that magical 1000 entry count on two days.

Okay, for those of you unaware, I am the cluster chair for a five day show over Labor Day weekend.  I chair our clubs side and then oversee the rest of it along with Sandy of the other club.

It's a year long process, not always easy and many times frustrating.  But so well worth it when we roll out of the grounds on Monday night.

Woooo Hooo!!!!  Largest Whippet entry to date, dal specialty, boxer specialty, supported entries(whippets) beagles, all three belgains, and bouvs.  I already have the paper work handy for doing a supported entry in both corgi breeds.

OMG-can not believe it's almost here-where's that list of things I musth do and the list of things I will forget????

heehee-I'm giddy!

One ringy dingy

I am once again living in the land of cell phones.  No, I have not gone totally tech, just a simple flip phone until we change providers this weekend.  But in the meantime, I seriously need anyone who I talk to regularly or who might just happen to want to call me or me them, to email me with your numbers.  I, um, well didn't get the backup done right and lost all the numbers.

Then again, going Amish has made for some very quiet and relaxing days.

Need a little in your life

Dawn and I were talking puppies this morning.  Comparing how the brothers are maturing and also what makes them so special.  The cuddles, the back talk(yeap mine does just like his daddy), the zoomies, the too smart yet so lazy attitudes on training, the world is our oyster personalities.

Everyone needs a little happy in your life.  It's a shame that too many people dwell on the get even, the one upsmanship of it all and the inability to live in the moment and savor it for what it is.

And now a quote from one of our favorite plays-Much Ado About Nothing.....

Benedict:  First, of my word; therefore play, music! Prince, thou art sad; get thee an Eddlet, get
thee a Eddlet!

Okay so I took a few liberties there, but man, quite living looking only at what might happen and live for what is going on right now-enjoy, love, live and laugh.

Divide and conquer!

The Foggy Bottom/Summit crew divided and conquered all realms this weekend!!!!

First-----Liz and Max in WI.

I am super happy and very very proud to annouce Liz finished her first conformation champion on Saturday under one of my favorite judges, Katie Gammil.  Max is now CH Summit FoggyBottom Perseid's Plunge.  He is the 3rd brother to finish out of the Dirty Dozen aka Space litter.  He and Liz are now headed to the agility and rally ring with hopes of adding many more titles to his name including a VC!  I am so happy for Liz and wish them both many more successes in the ring.  Gosh I love my puppy families!

Now to top it off, moved up as a special, under a judge who we figured would go a totally different direction, he went BOB!  WOW!!!!  DOUBLE WOW!!!!

Next---Shelley and Cara in Ohio

Shelley took Kaylee and River out to Ohio to hand off to Anne to then go to VA to Karen and Jane.  Mission accomplished.  But she also opted to stay for the weekend and enjoy the Western Reserve show.  She met a lot of cardigan people, had a great time and even managed to show Cara to WB on Saturday!  Just icing on the cake because....

In MN, we have Chip and Penny.....

Alec and I headed up to a great little show in Albert Lea, MN for the weekend.  It's always fun there.

Connor was BOV both days and Cy was BOW both days.  Expected results and of course Cy is becoming a real ham in the ring.

Saturday, cardigans, Chipmeister.  Can I just say OMG?   BOB!!!  I love Carolyn Herbel and so does Alec :)   And we took it walking in right after collies, go figure.  Nothing in group but a really good look.

Sunday was Penny's first show.  I've been giving Alec a handful of pooey about her-she's a little under confident, not shy, but just not sure she can do it by herself.  I guess she can....

The noted Houston Clark was judging-he's a legend and I wasn't sure that we had the right dogs for him.  I guess Penny was just what he was looking for.  WB-she was the only one entered.  But he did take a moment when handing Alec the ribbons to say, he really likes her, alot.

Back in for BOB.  I get to take Penny in, luck has it we were dead last, Atlas in front and Chip would be the special to come up behind her--perfect.  Lots of times around the ring, downs and backs, and Tiger was BOB, Atlas BOW(Congrats to Diana and Mac for finishing him!) and Penny BOS!!!  over two bitch specials for her first point!   Woo Hoo!  And she didn't pee on the table.  Double Woo Hoo!  Again, handed the ribbon and commented to me, she's a really nice pup and will go far.  From that judge, means a lot to me.  Thank you KIM!!!!

Spent the rest of the day showing Berners for Jen, handing Malcolm off to her daughter for some kid breaking, Alec helped out Muriel in RR and then just having good conversation with friends.

So dead cell phone, lots of big wins and come home to rain--what a perfect weekend!  Thanks to Liz, Shelley and everyone else for making it that way!

At a loss of what to say about losing a good friend.

She had been with me through the good times and bad times. Unfortunately as life progresses, we have come to a difference of  opinion and seems we can not reconcile.  It's a shame to loose all those memories and not have that connection anymore.

Good by dear cell phone, may you rest in a thousand pieces.

For anyone attempting to call me--don't.  I dropped the red headed girl on the ground Saturday night and she went every direction.  No amount of super glue will hold her head on now.  I can turn it on, talk but won't be able to hear an answer or read the screen.  Beheaded on the asphalt outside Pizza Hut.

On the hunt for a new phone and new carrier this week--please drop me an email with your number so that I can add it into the new phone, that is if I can't get it from my online back up.

And why you need bolt cutters?

For those curious, though no photo, and to answer the question, why a dog person need blot cutters....

Eddie of course and what did he do?? Well, during the storms a week ago, the lovely darling tried to get out of his crate to court a girl across the hall and got his upper canine stuck along with his nose.

Two things- a hubby who will sprint out to the barn, be able to find the bolt cutters in two nano seconds, in the pouring rain, and teaching bite inhibition to a puppy.  Eddie made no attempt to bite at all when my hand was in his mouth attempting to first get him loose, then realizing it would not work and holding his mouth at an angle to not stress out his mouth/tooth more.

Two snips by Alec, free dog, no damage other then a nice hole in the crate door and Eddie-who had no idea what all the fuss was about.

Sigh...

All is quiet

Alec meet Shelley in IL yesterday and handed over the precious parcels called Kaylee and River.  We in exchange have the Chipper Shredder for a few weeks to show.  Not sure if that was an even trade?  The rooster bark started as soon as he walked in the yard.  No more puppy fights and ruckus, but now this?

Off to Ohio Shelley, Cara, Kaylee and River go and the adventures called the Western Reserve.  Sending big ribbon wishes for Cara and hoping that the two blues clues kids behave for Anne on their way to their news homes in VA and NC.

Take good care of my babies Karen.  Now I did warn you about the naughty one and Jane, about your limp fish fluffy puppy.  Don't forget her sliced almonds-the Ms made sure she got lots before she left.

And back to quiet, not so quick.  Pretty Boy was pretty lonely last night and still looking for his sisters.  That's okay, he's made friends with Dovey, Frank and Moose, a step in the right direction I think.  I've been told he's spoiled?  I don't think he smells, but he does spend a lot of time being carried, cuddling in the chair and following me around.

Can't thank you enough Karen for letting Cora come out this way.  We've had a blast and I'm so excited to do it all again soon! Though David would really like to have his pillow back and his portion of the bed.

Finally got the Ms camera and well, here's the proof of a very patient dog.

Reminder to Moose, when she comes and takes you to her bedroom, something funny to the hooman's is about to happen.  I think I heard something about patriotic colors next time or was it lime green?

Ugly puppies

There is a joke that goes around underground between breeders that after 8-10 weeks, you just put puppies away, hide them from view until they are 6-8 mos old.  Routinely they go through the "uglies", growing at weird rates, legs first, long, tubey or growing so fast that they forget how to walk or run.  Just like human kids, which reminds me, the Ms is doing the exact same thing--when you hear a stumble in the house, followed by silence then "I'm Okay", yeap, time to go clothes shopping again.

So here are the ugly babies--just joking but they all are growing, doing different things with their bodies, still cute and evil as all get out(that would be Kaylee for those keeping track).

Kaylee and no she's not as evil as I make out, she's just too busy and into everything!(registered name will be something like Woodrose Winning Colors at FB)

Ms River-of course the fluff takes the best photos-only one take!  All you have to say is "almond?", and she's all ears.  (Registered name will be Foggy Bottom Woodrose Little Albatross)

And then there's Mal....the ears really are big, but he was looking up so they appear smaller and well, odd.  We'll try another one tonight. (Registered name-Foggy Bottom WdRse I Aim To Misbehave)

Now for a really ugly puppy, Ms Penny.  But look at the size of those ears--she does not do ears on the table, how can she, she'd be able to fly off the table if she did.  Her fronts wonky right now as she did a growth spurt the last week or two and grew so legs and a whole lotta length.

Talk about long!   Knowing the line, this is only growth thingy.  Mom did the same thing at this age.  What I do love though, is that she has kept her sweeping side gait and beautiful coming and going.  Now to get some weight on her!  She burns it off too quickly playing with Cy all day.  And for those wondering, no--she is NOT a black and white, she is the deepest darkest black brindle I've ever seen.  She has like four red strips across her shoulders and stifle, that's it!

So there you go, not hiding my ugly babies--just patiently waiting for the growth fairy to go away!
